Physically I’m not but mentally I am and that’s the best way to start. You’ve captured my mind and I know my heart is soon to follow. Many miles away but I refuse to let it dictate my feelings or my wants. Sense we are far apart we tell each other are options are open, but the door for us is not closed. Talib Kweli's Beautiful Struggle

Like Sanaa Lathan in Brown Suger asked “When did you first fall in love with Hip Hop?” Fighting fit I fell in love with Hip Hop when I first heard Talib Kweli’s song Beautiful Struggle. It was a melody to the ears a song understanding the plight of the people in the ghetto. It amazed me how he could just capture the essence of struggle in such a concise and interesting way. The poetry flow, the deliverance and the educational insight made something in me give me the thirst for knowledge and understanding.

The purpose of Talib Kweli producing a crafted song like this was to provide an alternative route from today’s mainstream so called gangster rap. The song supplies you with the educational sense about today’s world but through music, noting that he feels what you go through. Example; “ Yo, I heard the revolution won’t be televised,” and the lyrics there after embeds its point of view how we are living in the days of greed and contradiction. We go to church to find religion but there’s more love offerings then tithing, govermant is no longer Republican and Democrat just an elephant face and a donkey’s behind. So what if his audience is that of the lower class or what some may call ghetto. So what if it reaches every ear and heart of a black American, he delivers what he sees or have saw.

Why does he call the struggle beautiful is his own interpretation. I find it beautiful because you fight for what is right, you make changes every step of the way influencing the mind and heart of others. There is nothing more beautiful than the art of leadership for a cause. With the love, understanding and comfort of progress and success, being in a struggle is beautiful because it makes you STRONGER.

Chivalry, Who Killed It?

Courtesy, honor, generosity and faithfulness the CODE of CHIVALRY is what made man a “knight” and worthy of the love of a woman. Chivalry has seemed to become irrelevant today (as I see it in my generation) and that is a tragic loss for both men and women.

As a young woman growing up we were taught to declare ourselves equal to men in all aspects and in no need of superior treatment. If only women would realize that chivalry was a way of showing respect and devotion, not condescension. So do we have any hope of ever regaining this lost system of virtue?

Chivalry will become revived when women begin acting like women again. We cannot blame all problems on men (not giving them any slack), however when girls learn to mature and get that condescending quote “I can do bad all by myself” out their minds then men can learn to respect them. No man wants to teach his girl what the mother should have done. Once you portray yourself in a certain way that’s the way you will be treated as, thus fighting for the attention of a guys eye is not the route. Our generation of young women is on a decline, but the name calling, baby out of wedlock, and sex confusion is on a rise do to the misconception that all men (or women) are perfect or the I'm too independent role. The "I don’t need a man, I’m independent by myself" way of thinking. Don’t get me wrong being independent is good, however there are boundaries a woman should have and that’s where a man steps in hint hint “CHIVALRY”.

I am a product of my mother and a child of God, so I know my place as a woman. Do you?

Victor Mr 007 Griffin

Victor “Mr. 007” Griffin is an upcoming artist in mist. Saturday August 20th was his mixtape release party, and being a sister and friend to him I went in full affect and showed my support. Never under estimating this young man to my surprise what I was hearing throughout the speakers was authentic talent. He was eating on each bar. Not negating anyone who he is affiliated with but this young man has pure talent. I shared Mr. 007 (B.M.E) 1st single No Way No How and a few other tracks with a few artist and connects, off the back they were loving it. The No Way video was quoted”to have a old Bone Thugs N Harmony type feel” another stated “its lyrically legit”. Below I have embedded the No Way video for you guys to check out. Be sure to check back because Mr. 007 will be on many other blogs to come and I will share each link and the movement with you guys.

JANELLE MONAE

Simply Dramatic, that’s how the dancer, singer, and songwriter Janelle Monae described herself. When first hearing Monae I was skeptic about her because now days a lot of artist, female at that seem to be no good. So I really didn’t jump on her right away. However after my friend who is truly and deeply into real music as I am told me, “Kris you don’t need to be sleeping on this chick she’s hot. She needs to be in your iPod.” Taking that advice into huge consideration I started following Ms. Monae and her works. Her debut album ArchAndroid was more of the tip of the iceberg for me. The nice acoustic guitar and base drum that accompanies her voice makes each of Monae’s projects killer. Cold War is one that made me emotional and shed a tear. I really love the classic influence she promotes. Today’s music industry needs artists like Janelle Monae to redefine the boundaries, smash the stereotypes and question the public's conditioning of what is 'cool'. She is a true artist. Her musical influences have created a beast of talent in which we see ass Janelle Monae.

January Flawz

When he’s doing music you know him by his alias Slyy Kooper, or maybe when he is blogging you know him as Januaryflawz. However I know him as Tracy Woodard. I came across this blog on tumblr, it caught me off guard because on the page it was playing a song Big K.R.I.T -Another Naive Individual Glorifying Greed and Encouraging Racism. Real Hip Hop at its finest, I love that joint. Made me think of School Daze or Do The Right Thing. Anyway, the layout of the blog was dope. The random thoughts place in no order but the right order. You could tell it was created for free thought purposes not for the liking of others. Tracy Woodard the creator of januaryflawz.tumblr.com allowed me to do a mini interview on the subject of him and his blog. Mscurry414: so Tracy, tell me about the concept of how you designed your blog, and how you came up with the name januaryflawz.

Tracy Woodard: Well, the huge Capricorn sign that’s my header is self-explanatory lol, that’s my sign, shoutout to all my Capricorn’s and the bleeding black rose represents the pain I have experienced in numerous bad relationships to the point where I was a rose that bled out until I became numb to it and thus the black rose, or death of....in this case relationships/emotions, because I don’t believe loyal relationships that grow with time don’t exist with my generation. My name January Flawz is my soul, January for the month I was born in and Flawz because I am a flawed young man, my emotions, my post, my being is flawed, but those flaws are what make me the young man I am today and I have accepted that but I’m also working on improving myself to improve upon those flaws.

Mscurry414: how did you first get involved with blogging?

Tracy Woodard: I’ve been interested in blogging since I first discovered I could blog. You might laugh, but I have kept journals of my spoken word/poetry/thoughts since I was a young’in until now, I’m 21 and I just always speak what I feel - straight RAW, and sometimes it doesn’t always come off well, so I decided to write things out and post them online. Mscurry414: How do you keep coming up with material or the content for your blog? Many people struggle with coming up with different articles/posts and they only have one blog.

Tracy Woodard: I get inspiration from everyday life, I’ll reblog a post I like or I’ll post based off pure emotions which is what happens majority of the time. I’ll feel some kind of way and I’ll post a pic, reblog a pic, write a poem or note about it and post it up.

Mscurry414: besides blogging what else do you do?

Tracy Woodard: Besides blogging, I’m pretty boring lol, I still compose poetry, I compose music [real musical expressionism] and I do graphic arts, my alias is Slyy Kooper people can check that out reverbnation.com/slyykooper I been moving up the charts rapidly.

Mscurry414: What would you prioritize? Content? Traffic? Readers?

Tracy Woodard: Content always plain and simple, honestly if you look at my blog as a whole, you can make a legitimate guess of what type of person I am, but don’t assume too much, because if you assume you can make the jump, you’re sure to miss this ledge.

Mscurry414: with that being said what is your philosophy toward blogging if you have one.

Tracy Woodard: I really don’t have a philosophy, blogging is for me and it can be for you and just you, don’t let anyone tell you what to post, it’s your blog, not theirs and for those who have a problem with what I post, this middle finger is for you lol.

Mscurry414: Everyone has a favorite/least favorite post. Name yours and why?

Tracy Woodard: honestly, every post is my favorite, because every post or reblog expresses me and an emotion that I have had, felt or can relate to, life happens and as it happens I blog it, I love twitter to death but I can’t fit my emotions in 140 characters ya digg lol.

I meet this young man awhile back, and he taught me a lot. And now seeing him do his thing I have to show mad support. So if you don't know who Jonny Ski11z is, let me introduce you to not only a rapper with one of the sickest flows in the game, but also to an impressively inventive producer. He has been called Kid Cuddi, John Legend, Wiz, but he’s none of that. He is Jonny Ski11z, and just like his name he possesses mad skills. His talent I may say is ridiculously impeccable. jski11z: Umm Jonny Ski11z is just a kool young man from Dayton, Ohio with a skill and a passion for music.

mscurry414: how did you get started with the whole music, producing and writing scene?

jski11z: Funny story is, my rap career started in the balcony at my old church when I was about 9 years old lol. My mom has always been a talented singer so I was always surrounded by music and just got inspired.

mscurry414: I know that you make music largely independently. What do you think of the state of hip-hop as it is today? Is it progressing? Is it dying? Is it dead? Basically your overall thoughts on the current state of the game.

jski11z: IT SUCKS… lol but no hip-hop isn’t dead, it was just buried alive. That’s why most of the music that people are really listening to is underground. However the misconception that rap and hip-hop are the same still pollutes listener’s minds. There’s a difference between the art and making money off of music.

mscurry414: To let our visitors get a better feel for what has influenced you, in no specific order could you name a few of your favorite MC's of all time?

jski11z: Let’s see: Jay Z, Biggie Smalls, UGK, Big L, early Lil Wayne, TuPac, Z Ro, The Lox, Snoop, and biggest of all Myself.

mscurry414: Lol I see Jay Z is still top of your list, I remember you put me on a while back. But anyway with that being said, how do you separate yourself from others who do the same things as you?

jski11z: In all honesty I just do me. I figure if you stay in your own lane and allow your talent to speak for itself people could only copy or get inspired. But in no way do the actions of these “rappers” give me a reason to do anything extra than what I’ve been doing.

mscurry414: Very well put. So I must ask this mixtape that you are soon to release April 26^th, what’s the 411 on that? What should we be expecting from this album?

jski11z: Yea it’s titled “The Transition”. Basically, it just describes my life as of thus far. I just want people to listen it openly and hopefully someone will be able to relate to my message. But I have music for my backpackers, my underground people, my club hoppers, chicks, radio listeners, just everybody who likes good music.

mscurry414: what setbacks have you encountered sense being an entrepreneur?

jski11z: Lack of vision has to be the biggest. Life is really one big setback and one big come up and you get people who don’t see your vision the way you see it which causes doubt. But you just keep on pushing for progress.

mscurry414: What is your goal; where would you like this to take you?

jski11z: In the words of Biggie Smalls, “No one got in this game to be mediocre”. So with that being said I want to be the best that I can be. I dream of the lavish life just like everyone else. But ultimately I just want to be able to send a message through my lyrics and hopefully help someone with whatever their going through.

Childhood Memories

In days gone by I had no thoughts of passing time.

My days were filled with sights of

Snow covered nature,

Round table set with ash trays and half butts.

Children in laughter and in tears,

Front yard, barbeque grills, jump rope, and chalk.

Rocking chair with a throw cover.

These I saw in childhood.

I woke to varied sounds of

Sizzling buttered frying pans,

Sweet humming of gospel like hymns,

Running water,

Birds chirping, cars speeding by, sweeping of the front porch,

Ringing of a bell for breakfast.

These I heard in childhood.

My mouth was filled with tastes of

Thick sweet maple syrup,

Candy cane inserted in a dill pickle,

Savory green bell peppers and just right seasoned pork chops,

Buttermilk and corn mill,

Soggy bread with pineapples and peaches.

I tasted these in childhood.

My childish hands reached out and felt

Wet freezing snow,

Polished cherry wood,

Eggs, flour, and water.

Soggy, dirty and full of naturalization mud pies.

Rough from age connecting with mine to get up.

These I felt in childhood.

I well remember the smells of

Lemon Pin Sol and Old English,

Slowly cooked buttered grits,

Cinnamon baked apple pie,

Boling maple with a hint of nutmeg,

Mixture of morning dew set of with evening dinners.

All these I smelled in childhood.

Time was nothing to me, i was a child.....

From Lancaster, Texas to Hollywood, California Roland “M.E” Truitt has been making major moves. Meeting M.E many years ago and watching him progress has been a sight to see. He’s on the move consistently doing Photoshoots across the states, filming and making clothes and music. This guy is no stranger to hard work. I was privileged to get a 101 interview with him to get some general information about him and the work he does. Let me know what you guys think and feel free to throw any questions you may have for M.E at us, so that we may have them on hand for a future follow-up.

mscurry414: wats goodie roland aka M.E. to jump right in as we know RO Collection is coming up into something real big like tell me about. What is RO Collection, how did it all come about?

roland truitt: Well basically the collection is a group of trendsetters with a collection of idea that would take the fashion industry by storm. We felt the fashion is an art and Art is a way of expressing yourself about others and the world.

mscurry414: I know there is more than one side to what you do, what else is there to roland (m.e.)? the photography, media ect.

roland truitt: That’s exactly how the name M.E came about. I am Music, Film and Fashion. When a person would ask who made the clothes, I would reply me. When a person would ask who shot those videos or took those pictures, I would say me. And when a person would ask who made this song the answer would be me. So to help them better understand, I had to spell it out for them M.E

mscurry414: Nice, pretty dope. I must ask who influenced your style and what motivates you to do what you do? How do you separate yourself from others who do the same things as you?

roland truitt: my inspiration is the world, everything is designed with you in mind.

The Bible says be in the world not of the world, so I don’t really try to separate myself from others but, be among those so that I can both learn and teach threw my actions. People respect it more that way.

mscurry414:While doing photographydo you think that a person must possess talent to capture emotion and expression in a picture?

roland truitt: There is actually no right or wrong way in art. It all about the Vision: as long as your visual is on the same accord as your vision, then u can never go wROng

mscurry414: Do you have a special style in your photographs that can single you out from.

roland truitt: well that simple, the do photography, will I do ROtography that just the market behind the modeling:

mscurry414: what setbacks have you encountered sense being an entrepreneur?

roland truitt: Down fall is “business before pleasure” meaning you’ll never have fun again …lol

PAIN

I honestly thought everything was good and was for the best but I failed to recognize the source in which it was all coming from. Many people find themselves running from the feeling with the mistaken belief that you cannot endure pain but i beg to differ. Sometimes pain is for the good, but I’m going mark this as a weak emotion that should have never taken place. I fear the things that might take place in the process of getting over it but then again fear is a weak emotion and i despise it, so let’s see how far I care about this whole situation in a few days. I’m speaking with no detail of a situation that I was involved in. I say no detail because reviving it from the dead would cause more pain in which is not needed. But i describe to you with words on how my poem/note came about and they do say written words can heal the soul. So lets see if mine is still broken at the end......
